HARRIET'S JOURNEY HOME - TO - HARRIET'S JOURNEY CONTINUES...
Harriet’s Journey Home was a two-year fundraiser to design and install a 12-foot
bronze statue, called the Beacon of Hope. The statue stands at the Dorchester
County Courthouse, the place of Harriet Tubman’s first rescue and 12 miles from
her birthplace. The statue depicts Araminta Ross, affectionately known as Minty,
who sees herself in the future as Harriet Tubman, Moses to her people! The
statue honors the sacrifices Harriet Tubman made as a conductor on the Underground
Railroad. It was unveiled on September 10, 2022, in honor of Tubman’s
Bicentennial birthday.
You can now share your story! Each of us has a
Minty-to-Moses story. Leave your mark in stone—purchase a brick and walk in
Harriet’s shoes. Through us, her journey continues.
PHASE THREE of our brick fundraiser is underway!
The Beacon of Hope statue stands proudly, surrounded by hundreds of names
bearing witness to her truth and their own journey to freedom. We are now
selling bricks for the remaining three quadrants. The second and fourth
quadrants are open to everyone.
The third quadrant is reserved to honor U.S. military active duty, and veterans.
It also recognizes Harriet’s Civil War service, her leadership during the
Combahee River Raid, and her posthumous promotion to Brigadier General in 2024!

Brick Order Recommendations:
1. It is helpful to put some kind of identifier on your brick, not just a generic
message. (For example: "Thank You Harriet ~ S. Black" vs. "Thank You Harriet"). This will
help you easily identify your brick.
2. Please be mindful of the character limits. SPACES are counted as well.
Reminder:
Quadrants 2 and 4: are available to public.
Quadrant 3: Strictly reserved for US Military Active Duty and Veterans.
ALL BRICKS MUST BE PURCHASED BY JULY 31st. PHASE 3 WILL BE INSTALLED THE FIRST WEEK IN SEPTEMBER 2026
